UPC LiveCD is a UPC-enabled Linux operating system on a CD-ROM disc. It runs directly from the CD without installing. I created it to demonstrate UPC programming on the SC2005 conference.

With UPC LiveCD, you can try out UPC programming without the need of a multiprocessor environment. UPC LiveCD boots your laptop or workstation from a CD-ROM and runs in the memory only.

It does not have any side effects to the installed system on your computer. UPC LiveCD is based on the SLAX project. The current release contains demo versions of MuPC V1.1.2 and GCC UPC V3.4.4.1.

How to use:

· Burn the image on a blank CD.
· Read the README on the CD.
· Boot your computer from the CD. You may need to modify your BIOS settings to set CD-ROM as the first boot device.
· The system loads and starts KDE automatically. MuPC and GCC UPC are ready to use.
· When you are done, logout. The CD automatically ejects.

UPC INFO lets you lookup product information by the products Universal Price Code (UPC) number, which is also known as the barcode number.

GCC UPC toolset provides a compilation and execution environment for programs written in the UPC (Unified Parallel C) language.

The GCC UPC compiler extends the capabilities of the GNU GCC compiler. The GCC UPC compiler is implemented as a C Language dialect translator, in a fashion similar to the implementation of the GNU Objective C compiler.

Unified Parallel C (UPC) is an extension of the C programming language designed for high performance computing on large-scale parallel machines. The language provides a uniform programming model for both shared and distributed memory hardware.

The programmer is presented with a single shared, partitioned address space, where variables may be directly read and written by any processor, but each variable is physically associated with a single processor.

UPC uses a Single Program Multiple Data (SPMD) model of computation in which the amount of parallelism is fixed at program startup time, typically with a single thread of execution per processor.

In order to express parallelism, UPC extends ISO C 99 with the following constructs:
* An explicitly parallel execution model
* A shared address space
* Synchronization primitives and a memory consistency model
* Memory management primitives UPC combines the programmability advantages of the shared memory programming paradigm and the control over data layout and performance of the message passing programming paradigm.

Berkeley UPC is a high-performance, portable and fully open-source implementation of the UPC language designed for large-scale multiprocessors, PC clusters, and clusters of shared memory multiprocessors.

Berkeley UPC is the first UPC implementation available for Mac OS X, and delivers competetive performance for supercomputing applications on the largest OS X clusters in the world, yet also provides support for UPC code development on Mac OS X laptops and desktop workstations.

The Universal Product Code has been used in the North American retail industry since 1973. There are two different versions of UPC bar codes, UPC-A and UPC-E. The UPC-A bar code is 12 digits long, including its checksum. UPC-E bar codes are special shortened versions of UPC-A bar codes and are 6 digits long. Both UPC-A and UPC-E bar codes may have optional 2 or 5 digit supplemental codes appended to them.

Our scalable TrueType and PostScript bar code fonts comes in five different aspect ratios, so you can vary the height and width of the bars independent of each other. This lets you print bar codes with the same height, but different horizontal print densities. The online manual comes in Rich Text format. Just print a copy of the manual to see how to use these fonts to print bar codes.

UPC bar codes encode fixed length numeric data. A checksum is required, and checksum calculation is complex. VBA functions for Access and Excel make using our fonts in those programs a breeze. Our bar code set includes BARUPC.EXE a utility, which builds bar code strings and generates checksums for you and Word label templates. The BarUPC program can export bar codes as bmp, gif, or jpg graphic files.

The EAN UPC Barcode Font Package contains 5 sizes of TrueType and PostScript fonts for UPC-A, UPC-E, EAN-8 and EAN-13 bar code types. EAN & UPC is a complex bar-code type because it requires a check digit calculation and other number pairing functions. Our PrecisionID Font Formatting Components are provided with this package to simplify this process and make printing barcodes with our fonts an easy task. The PrecisionID Font Formatting Components include a Crystal Reports UFL, Microsoft VBA module for Excel and Access and Visual Basic source code which may also be used as a guide for conversion to other languages.
