Wake On LAN Ex description
Wake On LAN Ex was designed to be used with computers that contain network cards that turn on when a Wake On LAN Ex is a small program designed to be used with computers that contain network cards which are set to turn on when a "magic packet" is received.

Running Wake On LAN Ex, entering the required details, and hitting Send will cause the WOL-enabled computer to turn itself on and boot as normal.

Depending on its WOL abilities, the destination computer can be sleeping, hibernating, or entirely off and still be able to react to a Wake-On-LAN event. Since v0.95, it is now
possible to Log-Off, Restart, and Shutdown remote PCs.

This application does not require any runtimes at all to function.

Usage

Run the program and enter a network mask into the first textbox (255.255.255.255 is the default) and the MAC ID of the computer you would like to wake-up into the second textbox. The ID can be obtained by the following means (do this on the computer that you would like to wake-up, NOT on the computer that is sending the WOL signal!) ...

A) Windows NT. Open a command prompt and type IPCONFIG /ALL followed by Return. The value listed after Physical Address is the MAC ID.

B) Windows 95/98/NT4. Type WINIPCFG and locate the 12-character string.

To be able to Log-Off, Restart, and Shutdown other computers running Windows, you will need to have a user account on those computers and be logged in (logging in by checking a shared folder generally works). You will also need to be using an NT version of Windows.

The SolarWinds Wake-On-LAN is a free and useful application which has the ability to "power on" a PC remotely. This is accomplished by the generation of a "Magic Packet" to remotely power on PCs attached to networks. When the remote network adapter hears a "Magic Packet" created for it s unique MAC address the network adapter alerts the computer to power on. If Wake ON LAN has been enabled in the computer s BIOS settings, the system will power on as if the power button had been pressed.

To accomplish this you will first need to ensure your PC is configured to accept a Wake-On-LAN remote command. You must also identify the IP Address and MAC Address of the remote device. When the device shuts down, its Network Interface Card (NIC card) is still receiving power, and keeps listening on the network for a magic packet to arrive.

Wake On LAN proxy allows machines behind a gateway/firewall to be woken up. You have a constant connection to the Internet, but you are away from base. All machines except the gateway are powered off while you are away. Remotely you decide you want to access one of your machines. You need to power it up first. For machines with suitable NICs there is the Wake On LAN mechanism. But this doesnt work over the Internet because you would have to route a packet to your internal network. The firewall stops you from doing that, for good reasons. Even if you were able to route a packet, you wouldnt want this information to travel in the clear, otherwise other people who intercept your packets could learn how to turn on your machines remotely too. So you need some kind of authentication and privacy.

Enter Wake On LAN proxy. This runs on your gateway, or on some other machine on the network thats always on, and can be reached from the Internet by port forwarding. You can send a command to it to wake a particular machine and it broadcasts a suitable packet on the internal network.

Wake Up Call is an alarm clock with custom audio recording, elegant UI and special heavy sleeper options for Newton OS 2.1

Here are some key features of "Wake Up Call":

· Audio Recordings - Not only can Wake Up Call use any installed system sound, but it also takes full advantage of the advanced audio capabilities of the Newton OS 2.1 to allow you to create audio recordings to use as your own personal wake up call. Use sounds, recordings, or both, with independent volume settings.
· Foolproof Interface - Have you ever set your alarm for 8:00, only to wake up late and find that you had set it for 8:00 PM by mistake? Ever stopped the alarm when you meant to snooze? These things will never happen with Wake Up Call. The clear digital display is easy to use and the time remaining is displayed right in the main window (but you can turn it off if it is too depressing). The alarm screen features a giant snooze button, with the Stop button tucked safely out of the way. The Extras Drawer icon changes so you know whether the alarm is on or not, without even opening the app. Also, the Test Alarm button in the preferences window allows you to instantly preview how your alarm will sound with one tap.
· Heavy Sleeper Options - Sometimes the best part of waking up is going back to sleep. Thats why Wake Up Call features a nice finger-sized Custom Snooze menu, which lets you decide on the fly to skip that first morning class or meeting, and snooze for a couple more hours. But for those times when it is really important, you can turn on Wake Up Calls option to confirm alarm shutoff--making sure that when you stop the alarm, you dont go back to sleep (if you dont acknowledge the confirmation, it snoozes instead of stopping).
· Highly Configurable - From within Wake Up Calls intuitive tabbed-panel preferences display, you can configure every detail of how you want to be woken up. Choose the alarm sound an/or recording. Dont care? Then set them to Random mode. Independent volume controls for sounds and recordings. Adjustable alarm and snooze durations. User controllable pause between sounds. Should the alarm sound every day, or only when you turn it on? What should the power button do? Do you want to see how much time remains before you have to wake up? Wake Up Call allows you to specify all this and more, quickly and conveniently. Just check out the screen shots below!

Whats New in This Release:

· There is now an option to have the alarm start soft, and gradually increase in volume.
· Tapping the "Time Remaining" display in the main window now pops up a picker that lets you set the alarm to go off after a certain amount of time (i.e., 8 hours from now).
· And you can set Wake Up Call to automatically turn on the backlight when the alarm sounds.
