An unusually detailed and rather challenging single-player dungeon adventure game. Based on Dungeons of Moria, Angband is strongly Tolkien-influenced, but also includes much Dungeons and Dragons material. It focuses on exploration and character development; there is in fact no plot and only one great quest: to find and defeat Morgoth, Lord of Darkness.
Perhaps Angbands strongest suit is the enormous variety of variants it has inspired. As of this writing there are approximately 15 variants in active development, and new versions come out approximately every two weeks.
