The Windows Media Audio and Video 9 Series codecs offer the best experience when delivered using the ASF file container.
To offer the flexibility our customers have asked for, new licensing terms allow for these codecs to be used in other file containers as well.
Once installed, legacy solutions will automatically be able to use the codec via the VCM interface.
The VCM includes a property page so that users can set encoding parameters.

The Windows Media Center to iPod video converter application was designed to be a tool that wraps ffmpeg.exe and uses it to convert dvr-ms files to mp4 files suitable for playback on an iPod or iPhone.
Internally the converter converts the file by calling ffmpeg.exe using the following command line.
ffmpeg.exe -i input -acodec libfaac -ab 128kb -vcodec mpeg4 -b 1200kb -mbd 2 -flags 4mvtrell -aic 2 -cmp 2 -subcmp 2 -s 480x320 -title X output.mp4
Where input is the input file, X is the title of the video that will appear in iTunes and output.mp4 is the output file name.
