AbiWord 2.8.1 offers you a free word processing program similar to Microsoft Word which is suitable for a wide variety of word processing tasks. It features a familiar-looking interface, basic character formatting, paragraph alignment, a spell checker, interactive rulers and tabs, styles, unlimited undo/redo, find and replace, and image support.

It can also import Microsoft Word 97 and RTF (Rich Text Format) documents, as well as support headers/footers,superscript/subscript, widow/orphan control and newspaper-style columns. Many plug-ins are available.

AbiWord allows you to collaborate with multiple people on one document at the same time. It is tightly integrated with the AbiCollab.net web service, which lets you store documents online, allows easy document sharing with your friends, and performs format conversions on the fly.
